Rockwood Middle strives to provide students with as many
opportunities as possible in multiple faucets of education.
These opportunities include access to technology.
Within the school- there are two computer labs, a mobile
Chrome Book lab, and a mobile iPad lab. The devices allow
students to explore the possibilities of technology, prepare our
students for state wide testing (which is now mandated to be
assessed electronically), and allow our students to master
Students (excluding those participating in band) are all
enrolled in a nine week computer class. During that time
students are expected to master a minimum of 30 words per minute by
the end of the grading period. As of this year, students
recieve a grade in all related arts classes. The expectation
in computer class is to increase words per minute, and other
essential keyboarding skills, by completing daily typing modules.
The FIVE HIGHEST scores are calculated to determine the
students' grades. The following words per minute correspond
to a letter grade: 30 wpm =A, 25 wpm =B, 20wpm =C, 15 wpm=D and 14
wpm or less =F.
Any student may practice these skills at home, as they are
essential to the success of, both, core classes and standardized
testing. Practice links are available on the Library's
Webpage under the LINKS tab at the top of the page.
In addition to these devices, Roane County Schools offers each
student access to an email address to communicate with faculty and
staff (not other students) and a Google Drive account.
Students may access these tools through Google. This
link is available on the RMS Homepage, as well as Library's Webpage
under the LINKS tab at the top of the page. This tool allows
students to share and save documents easily from computer to
computer, or any electronic device. In order to login,
students will use their firstname.lastname@example.org and their
